.
Created in 1996, the Arizona
Telemedicine Program has evolved into one of the world's
largest telemedicine programs. Approximately 1,000,000
Arizona patients have received medical services over the
ATP's state-wide broadband telecommunications network.
.
The ATP recently received federal
funding to expand its footprint into four adjacent States.
Nevada, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico. The ATP, and its
staff, has received numerous awards, and honors, for
innovations in education, research, and healthcare services.
.
The decision in 2003 by the Arizona
Board of Regents, to create a Bio-medical Sciences Campus in
downtown Phoenix provided an opportunity for the ATP to
expand its ongoing work on healthcare workforce disparity
issues.
.
This would be accomplished by the
establishment of a new division of the ATP, the Institute
for Advanced Telemedicine, and Telehealth (T-Health
Institute), to be headquartered in downtown Phoenix.
.
T-Health's expanded mission is to
create an enabling video conferencing facility to support
next-generation inter-professional healthcare education
curriculum, and to serve as a telemedicine training center
for Northern Arizona, as well as neighboring States.
.
The T-Health Amphitheater is truly a
unique resource for Arizona. It is a first-of-its-kind video
conferencing center, incorporating a number of new,
custom-designed video conference platforms. Including its
innovative "e-StacksTM"
and "e-SwapsTM"
visible social networking platforms.
.
We hope that these capabilities
enhance Arizona's multi-site inter-professional healthcare
education programs.
.
Arizona aspires to become a National
leader in the rapidly evolving field of Inter-professional
Healthcare Education (IPHE). The competition of the T-Health
Amphitheater is an important step in that direction.
